If you’ve been affected, check out our guide for 10 troubleshooting tips for 6.0 Marshmallow problems to see if there are any fixes to help. If you don’t see your problem in the list, let us know in the comments and we will try to walk you through a solution. A factory reset of your device may be needed. This will wipe your personal data from the handset, so backing up your files is highly recommended. (This won’t delete any data on your SIM card.) If you’re having other problems with the Nexus 5, we have a guide for all kinds of issues.

1. Battery Problems on 6.0

If you’re having issues with your battery life, it might be because your Nexus device is struggling to cope with the resource-heavy update. However, it’s more likely that apps are the cause of your problems. You can check our guide to extending battery life on Android. Wi-Fi settings have also been known to cause battery drainage, with another update expected to be rolled out soon to solve these problems. Turning off both Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth, scanning could also help to conserve your battery. Step 1: You can find these options by tapping Location from the Settings menu. Step 2: Tap the three dots in the top right corner. Step 3: Tap Scanning. Step 4: Turn off both of the scanning settings.  (Source) This should give your battery a boost if it’s being drained because of the Wi-Fi. If you’re having trouble with charging your device, check point four on this list.

2. Wi-Fi and Data Connection Errors

What’s the point in having the latest smartphone if it can’t connect to the internet? You can always attempt to fix your connection issues by toggling Airplane Mode. This can usually be done by accessing your Notification panel. Swipe down from the Home screen, and toggle the Airplane icon. It should reset your connection quickly and it’s quicker than rebooting your device. If Airplane mode doesn’t work, you can forget the Wi-Fi connection on your device and attempt to reconnect to see if it solves your problems.

3. Audio Issues and Speaker Issues

If your speaker has started to have problems such as loss of volume or issues with the microphone, a factory reset your device may be needed. This will wipe your personal data from the handset, so backing up your files is highly recommended. For Nexus Devices: Step 1: From your Settings, tap Personal. Step 2: Tap Backup and Reset. Step 3: You may have to enter your password. Step 4: Tap Personal data. Step 5: Tap Factory data reset, and tap Reset Phone/Tablet (depending on your device). Step 6: You may have to enter your password again. Step 7: Tap Erase everything to reset your device. Hopefully, you will have resolved any issues with volume loss. If you’re having trouble with the steps above, here’s a video that takes you through the procedure. It’s rumoured that the 6.0 firmware will soon be coming to Samsung devices, so here’s the method to factory reset them just in case.

When the device is turned off, hold down the Power, Volume Upand Home buttons at the same time for roughly 10 seconds.Let go when the Android logo appears onscreen.Use the Volume buttons to navigate to Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Use the Power button to confirm your choice.Select Yes – Delete All User Data.Select Reboot System Now when the next menu appears on screen.Your device will now reboot back to the factory settings.

Here’s a video for this method: Your device should now be free of any audio/speaker issues, but if problems persist, it could be the hardware itself.

4. 6.0 Charging troubleshooting

A device that won’t charge is an expensive brick, so solving any issues since the 6.0 update should be a priority. If you’re experiencing slower charging, it’s probably just an unwanted side effect of the new update. If your device isn’t charging at all, it won’t be because of the 6.0 update. Try using another cable, or have a look through the official troubleshooting guide for charging on Nexus devices.

5. Installation Errors

Some users have reported issues when installing Marshmallow on the Nexus 6. If you’re having trouble with the installation, it might be worth holding off the update for now, but if you can’t wait: Step 1: Press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons together to reboot your device. Step 2: Wait for a large arrow to appear on the screen. Step 3: Tap the Volume buttons to navigate to Recovery Menu and use the Power button to select this option. Step 4: Hold the Volume Up key for five seconds and release. A new menu will appear. Step 5: Navigate to Wipe Cache Partition using the Volume Keys. Step 6: Press Power to select it. Here’s a video that takes you through the steps above. You should now be free to attempt another install of Marshmallow.

6. Login Issues on 6.0

It’s extremely rare, but if you can’t login to your Google account after the update, it might be because you changed your password recently. There’s a 72 hour wait period until you can login to your account on your device, so that should be the cause if you get an error message saying that you must log in as one of the device owners. Waiting it out is the easiest method to solve these problems.

7. App Crashes and Reboots

Reboots and crashing apps are an unwelcome side effect of the update for some users. Apps like SnapChat and Viber have reportedly caused issues, but these should be resolved as soon as the latest version of their software is updated. If problems persist, you may have to stop using the app until it starts working with Marshmallow. The opening animation of the Marshmallow install has also been reported to get stuck in a loop, but you can still get out of it by following the method listed in step 5.

8. Problems clearing the Cache partition on Marshmallow

Some Android users have reported problems when trying to clear the cache partition after the Marshmallow update. If you’re affected, it might be worth waiting until the update is more stable. Steps to wipe the cache are listed in method 5.

9. Bluetooth problems on 6.0 (Nexus 5)

(Source) It has been reported that users have had problems making calls while driving with Bluetooth after the update. A factory reset may solve some of your issues, but it’s probably worth waiting for an update from Google.

10. Video Player Errors

Many devices now have large screens with great clarity, so it can be annoying if there is an issue with your video player after the 6.0 update. Android users have reported errors with certain codecs if videos aren’t deinterlaced, and it’s unclear whether this was done on purpose by Google. Bottom line; some videos just won’t be supported on Marshmallow. (Although most weren’t supported on older updates either.)

Conclusion:

Nobody expected the Marshmallow update to arrive without any problems, but it has caused a lot of hassle for users. There’s no progress without struggle, but updates are meant to be helpful for the user. Hopefully we were able to help with any issues.
