We think you’ll get a fair deal from Verizon Fios without having to sign an annual contract. Plus, it offers fully fiber internet and continues to expand its 5G and 4G LTE Home Internet options in other locations—including some cities where you can’t get Fios Home Internet service.

You might be able to find the rare internet plan that’s a better deal, like the Optimum 1 Gig, but we’d say Verizon Fios Home Internet prices are hard to beat.
Compared to Optimum: You tend to get more speed at a lower price from Optimum, but its cable connection likely isn’t as reliable as Verizon’s fiber connection. So if you work from home or upload to YouTube regularly, go with Verizon Fios Home Internet. Compared to Spectrum: Spectrum’s prices are a bit steeper than Verizon Fios Home Internet’s, especially when it comes to gig speeds. We say go with Verizon over Spectrum. Compared to Xfinity: Comcast Xfinity matches Verizon Fios Home Internet prices at almost every turn. But you might need to sign a contract to get a competitive price from Xfinity, while Verizon Fios Home Internet has no annual contract.

And that’s a huge deal for videographers and photographers who upload a lot of huge files—or for anyone who works with large files in their home office, for that matter. That’s not as symmetrical as, say, 300 download and 300 upload, but you’ll see these speeds paired together with other fiber internet providers too. We’d say those speeds are close—and fast—enough that you won’t even notice that slight difference in download and upload speed. This is probably the simplest contract, equipment, and fees review we’ve ever written for an ISP. We’d like to give Verizon Fios a standing ovation for keeping things simple. You might pay a $99 installation fee if you don’t order online, and you may also pay a monthly equipment rental charge. But those are far more straightforward than something like a “Wi-Fi activation fee” or monthly charge to keep any service technician visits from blowing up your wallet. (Both of these service fees exist out in the wild. You’ve been warned.)

A Verizon router costs $15 each month to rent—unless you grab the Fios Gigabit Connection plan. On top of that, you can grab a Wi-Fi extender from Verizon too. Wi-Fi extenders are perfect for stretching your wireless connection to those hard-to-reach spots in a large house—or if your wireless router has to sit in a far-away corner. We do wish Verizon Fios Home Internet offered service in more areas of the US, but overall, we’re pleased with what it’s got going on.
Prices and plans: Prices for Verizon Fios Home Internet are on par or lower than what you might see from competitors. And it offers quite a few different speeds to choose from, so you’re more likely to find a plan and a price that fit your needs. Speed: Verizon Fios Home Internet regularly earns top marks when we analyze speed tests from around the US. If we were betting people, we’d wager you’ll get the speeds you pay for. Contracts, equipment, and fees: No annual contracts and no hidden fees are a big win. Verizon Fios does have a monthly equipment charge for all but its Fios Gigabit Connection plan though. Customer service: We consistently hear praise for Verizon Fios customer service, and that’s quite an achievement for an internet provider.
Verizon also mentions that in order to ensure a quick installation, make sure someone over the age of 18 is present throughout installation, and check the Get Ready checklist on the site before your technician arrives. The fully fiber Verizon Fios Home Internet service is available mostly in larger cities and suburbs, while the Verizon DSL internet is available in more rural towns. Also, Verizon offers 5G Home Internet and 4G LTE Home Internet in a handful of large cities and small towns across the US. The best way to check if Verizon Fios Home Internet is available in your area is to enter your address in Verizon’s availability checker. On top of that, we’ve heard great things about Verizon’s customer service team, and it doesn’t require you to sign an annual contract or jack up the price after a year. And along with the Fios router, you can grab a Fios Wi-Fi extender if you need more Wi-Fi coverage in your home. If you choose to rent a Wi-Fi router from Verizon, it costs $15 a month for all plans except Fios Gigabit Connection, which gets you a router at no extra charge.
